D-Day
D-Day was the surprise invasion and attack on the German army in Normandy on June 6, 1944. The Allies were going to overthrow Nazi Germany and Adolf Hitler who had nearly seized control of all Europe. A massive military force set out from England toward France. When the Allies landed on the beaches of Normandy they began to break through the German army defence. The attack lasted for 11 months and took them all the way to Berlin. The five main landing beaches were: Juno beach which was guarded by Canadian and British troops, Gold beach, Omaha beach, Sword beach, and Utah beach. The Allies suffered about 10,000 losses on D-Day itself. The invasion was considered a success despite the heavy setbacks. D-Day is significant because it led to the eventual defeat of Germany, and the end of WWII.
