The Rise of Fascism
New political movement emerged in 1919, under the leadership of Benito Mussolini. This movement was known as fascism - a revolt against democratic values, including equality and individual freedom. Followers of fascism believed that democracy weakened the state by placing too much emphasis on the individual. All aspects of society are controlled by the government, and no opposition or protests are tolerated. Propaganda and censorship of the media is widely practiced.
