Adolf Hitler
Adolf Hitler was an Austrian-born German dictator and leader of the Nazi Party. Hitler promised to tear up the hated Treaty of Versailles, restore Germany to greatness, create a mighty German army and re-seize all overseas colonies back to German rule. Hitler slowly began to take over countries in Europe without much resistance. Hitler called for the systematic murder of six million Jews. This mass murder is called the Holocaust or Shoah. The start of the Holocaust began on November 10, 1938, when Jewish businesses, homes, and synagogues were trashed and burned by gangs of Nazi thugs. The Jews were isolated in stages from society. They were stripped of rights, segregated, concentrated in camps, and later exterminated in what is known as the "final solution". Hitler committed suicide on April 30,1945 after Allied troops had begun to close in and word of Mussolini's capture and death. Adolf Hitler was significant because he committed genocide of innocent Jews, and left Germany in shambles.
